Beam Paints
Beam Paints is a Canadian Indigenous-owned company rooted in a rich family tradition of art, pigment gathering, and sustainable innovation. Founded by artist Anong Beam and operating out of M’Chigeeng First Nation on Manitoulin Island, Beam Paints is the culmination of generations of knowledge and love for colour. Drawing on teachings from her parents, renowned artists Carl Beam and Ann Beam, and her own early education in harvesting natural pigments from the LaCloche mountain range, Anong has created a line of artist-quality materials that honour both Indigenous practices and global paint traditions.
Each product is made with high-quality, lightfast pigments, blended with gum arabic and maple sap tapped on Manitoulin Island, resulting in richly saturated watercolours that perform beautifully across styles—from bold brushstrokes to delicate detail. Beam Paints’ signature “paintstones,” their unique take on the half-pan, are wrapped in beeswaxed cloth and packaged in offcuts of cedar and birch, repurposed from a sustainable Indigenous lumber operation.
Proudly 100% Anishnaabe Kwe owned, Beam Paints supports its community by employing local artisans and paintmakers from M’Chigeeng, Sagamok, and Wikwemikong. With a commitment to plastic-free packaging, sustainability, and exceptional quality, Beam Paints offers artist materials that are as beautiful in origin as they are in use.
