You will create your own narrative-based, mixed media painting. Different materials and imagery are used to create a story, fictional or real, about your central characters. You are encouraged to bring your own ephemera that relate to the person or the story you want to create. You will have access to a large supply of various ephemera, specialty papers, stamps, ink, etc to experiment with. Chalk paint will be used to add colour, block out areas, and add depth. You will then use a thin layer of clear gesso to bridge to the final encaustic finish. The unique, warm glow of the wax finish lends mystery and history to everyone’s personal projects.
*Note: You can email two full length (head to toe) photographs of people you’d like to use in your painting at least ONE WEEK before the workshop begins. We will remove the background and print both black and white as well as colourized images that will be ready to use. We have a large collection of stock images of people if you prefer.
Workshop runs Saturday March 4 – Sunday March 5 from 10am – 4pm each day.
Materials Required: Two 8×10 wooden cradled panels. All other materials are provided.
