I will guide participants through creating their own narrative based, mixed-media painting as materials and imagery are used to create a story, fictional or real, about the central character. Participants are encouraged to bring their own ephemera that relate to their person or the story they want to create but I will also have a supply of various ephemera, specialty papers, stamps, ink, etc for students to experiment with. Chalk paint will be used to add colour, block out areas, and add depth and then students will be lead through the use of claer gesso to bridge to the final encaustic finish. The unique, warm glow of the wax finish lends mystery and history to everyone’s personal projects.

Workshop runs Saturday August 8 – Sunday August 9 from 10:00am to 4:00pm each day.

Registration is limited to 8 participants and must be made through the Southampton Arts Centre.
