About The Birth of Venus
This masterpiece by Italian artist Sandro Botticelli depicts the goddess Venus arriving at the shore after her birth, when she had emerged from the sea fully-grown.
Although the pose of Venus is classical in some respects, the overall treatment of the figure, standing off-centre with a curved body of long flowing lines, is, in many respects, from Gothic art. She appears to be floating, not standing.
The painting resides at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.
